An authentic Greek bronze coin from the 2nd century BC has been set in this sterling silver pendant. The coin depicts a lyre on one side and the head of Apollo on the other.

Thouroi, an Athenian colony founded in 443 BC near the ruins of Sybaris, was originally named Nuova Sibari before being renamed Thouroi. The colony was established to revive the region’s prosperity after the destruction of Sybaris and soon flourished as a center of Greek culture and influence in southern Italy.

Apollo, whose image graces the coin, is a deity central to Greek and Roman religions. He is the god of the Sun, the arts, music, poetry, prophecy, medicine, and the sciences that illuminate the intellect. His primary symbols are the Sun and the lyre, both of which signify his divine connection to light, wisdom, and harmony.
