An authentic Roman coin from the 1st century AD has been set in this 925 silver ring. which depicts the Emperor Trajan: in the back, the Genius.
Among the ancients the belief was that the Genius was born and died with every man or according to another posthumous current he survived in the afterlife as an immortal soul; the Genius advised and guided man generally towards the good, in the course of his earthly journey; he was a spiritual figure that can be compared with the later Guardian Angel of the Christians. In Trajan's emissions we see two representations of the Genius in the reverses; in both cases with a semi-naked young man with a turreted head holding a patera in his right hand and a cornucopia in his left.

Trajan (18 September 53 – 8 August 117) was Roman emperor from 98 to 117. Officially declared by the Senate optimus princeps ("best ruler"), Trajan is remembered as a successful soldier-emperor who presided over the greatest military expansion in Roman history, leading the empire to attain its maximum territorial extent by the time of his death. He is also known for his philanthropic rule, overseeing extensive public building programs and implementing social welfare policies, which earned him his enduring reputation as the second of the Five Good Emperors who presided over an era of peace and prosperity in the Mediterranean world.
