EMPEROR HADRIAN Genuine Ancient Roman coin 2nd cent. AD Pendant adorned with 16 Sapphires 0,70 KT
This sterling silver pendant holds an authentic Roman coin dating back to the 2nd century AD, depicting Emperor Hadrian, surrounded by 16 Sapphires 0,70 KT. The reverse side showcases the goddess Aeternitas who, in the religion of Ancient Rome, was the divine personification of eternity. She was particularly associated with the Imperial Cult as a Virtue of the deified emperor (divus).
Hadrian is best remembered for his extensive travels, notable construction projects, and his efforts to unify the vast territories of the Roman Empire. He possessed a refined aesthetic sense, was highly educated, and even left behind a collection of poems. Some of the architectural marvels attributed to his reign include the Temple of Rome and Venus, as well as the rebuilding of the Pantheon, which had suffered fire damage during the rule of his predecessor.
One of his most renowned legacies is the Villa Adriana, located just outside of Rome. Covering an area of seven square miles, this opulent estate was more akin to a garden city than a mere villa. It boasted various amenities such as baths, libraries, sculpture gardens, theaters, open-air dining halls, pavilions, and private suites. Some portions of this grand complex have survived to the present day, and it was rightfully designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999.
Hadrian's tomb, known today as the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, served as a burial site for subsequent emperors and was later converted into a fortress during the 5th century.
