This sterling silver pendant features an authentic Roman coin minted by Albinus Bruti in 48 BC. The coin showcases a significant scene: clasped hands holding a winged caduceus, known as "Dextrarum iunctio." On the coin's reverse side, we can observe an image of Pietas, a Roman divine representation of dutifulness towards the State, deities, and the family.

The act of handshaking, referred to as "Dexiosis" in Greek culture and "Dextrarum Iunctio" in Roman tradition, has its origins in ancient Greek art. For Romans, this gesture symbolized harmony, affinity, friendship, and loyalty. Since the right hand was associated with the deity of fidelity, the act of handclasp in political contexts denoted a commitment to political concord after a contractual agreement. During the Antonine period, Dextrarum Iunctio took on a new meaning as it came to symbolize the harmonious partnership of the imperial couple.
