This sterling silver pendant features an authentic silver Roman coin from the 2nd century AD, depicting Emperor Hadrian on one side and the personification of Justice on the other. Hadrian is celebrated for his extensive travels, ambitious building projects, and efforts to unify the distant parts of the Roman Empire. Known for his aesthetic sense and education, he also left behind several poems. His reign is marked by enduring architectural achievements, such as the Temple of Rome and Venus and the reconstruction of the Pantheon, which had been destroyed by fire during the reign of his predecessor.

Hadrian's country residence, Villa Adriana, located outside Rome, exemplifies the opulence and elegance of the Roman world. Spanning seven square miles, it was more of a garden city than a villa, featuring baths, libraries, sculpture gardens, theaters, alfresco dining halls, pavilions, and private suites, many of which have survived to the present day. This magnificent site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. Hadrian's tomb, now known as the Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, became a burial place for subsequent emperors and was transformed into a fortress in the 5th century.
