An authentic Roman silver Antoninianus (AD 238–244) depicting Emperor Gordian III has been set in this sterling silver pendant. On the obverse appears Victory, the winged goddess of triumph, advancing with confidence as a symbol of military success, imperial power, and Rome’s enduring dominance. Victory was among the most important figures in Roman iconography, celebrating achievements on the battlefield and the prosperity secured through strength and conquest.

On the reverse is portrayed Gordian III (AD 225–244), who became Roman emperor in 238 at just thirteen years of age, making him one of the youngest rulers in Roman history. His reign took place during the Crisis of the Third Century, a period marked by political instability and external threats. Despite these challenges, Gordian III remained a popular emperor and led important campaigns against the Sasanian Persian Empire. His death in 244, while campaigning in the East, remains the subject of historical debate, with ancient sources differing on whether he fell in battle or was the victim of political intrigue.
