I crafted this exquisite 24 Kt gilded bronze and plexiglass ring, a design born from my creative vision and meticulously brought to life by the skilled artisans at SERRA, my renowned shop established in Rome since 1910. Nestled in via Margutta 57, within the city's historic heart near the iconic Spanish Steps, SERRA has been a bastion of craftsmanship.
The centerpiece of this ring is an authentic Roman denarius featuring Julia Domna, an influential figure in Roman history. Born circa 160 AD in Emesa, Roman Syria, she hailed from a family of priests devoted to the deity Elagabalus. In 187, she married Septimius Severus, a native of Libya serving as governor in the Roman province of Gallia Lugdunensis. Their union blessed them with two sons, Caracalla and Geta.
The year 193 ushered in a civil war for control of the Roman throne, leading to Severus declaring himself emperor. By 197, after a series of conflicts, Severus emerged victorious, solidifying his reign. Throughout her tenure as empress, Domna wielded significant political, social, and philosophical influence. Her acclaim earned her titles like "Mother of the Invincible Camps," underscoring her pivotal role in the empire's affairs.
