Persian Silver Coin Pendant depicting King Peroz I
On the death of his father he was Governor of distant Sistan. In his absence, his younger brother Hormizd took the throne and Peroz was forced to seek protection from the Hephthalites. The Hephalite king Khush-Nevaz was happy to welcome him and help him in the war against his brother. With the help of the Hephalites, Peroz led an army against Hormizd, defeating him and keeping him in captivity. Sources disagree over Hormizd's fate after his capture. However, according to the Persian historian Mirkhond, Peroz forgave him and spared his life.
