This sterling silver pendant features an authentic Macedonian coin from Amphipolis, dated 148 BC. One side of the coin depicts a Gorgon/Medusa, while the other side shows Athena standing with Nike, a spear, and a shield.

In Greek mythology, Gorgons, including the infamous Medusa, were fearsome creatures whose gaze could turn people to stone. Their image was a powerful symbol of protection, frequently appearing in early Greek religious texts such as those by Homer. By placing Gorgon images on objects and buildings, the ancients believed they could ward off evil and safeguard against harm.

Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare, is depicted on the reverse side of the coin. She holds Nike, the personification of victory, along with a spear and shield, symbolizing her martial prowess and protective nature. This combination of symbols on the coin represents both the protective and victorious aspects revered in ancient Greek culture.
