This exquisite coral and 18 Kt gold horn originates from the Italian sea and was acquired in Torre del Greco, renowned for its long-standing tradition in coral jewelry. It has been skillfully adorned with an 18 Kt gold crown and a small topaz by our expert goldsmiths. Traditionally, the coral horn is considered an amulet that brings good luck and is often given to children for protection. Many paintings from the 1500s depict children wearing a small horn or a coral branch. Notably, in Piero della Francesca's famous painting "Madonna di Senigallia" (1470, Urbino, Galleria Nazionale), Jesus is shown wearing coral.

The use of the "corno" dates back to the Neolithic period around 3500 B.C. in the Mediterranean region. Ancient peoples regarded the horn as a symbol of good fortune and fertility. At that time, fertility was seen as a blessing for the community, and bull's horns symbolized male strength and virility. In ancient times, horns were also offered as votive gifts to the goddesses Venus and Luna. Red coral, often used to craft these charms, is sacred to Venus, the goddess of love. The red color and phallic shape are linked to the male fertility god Priapus. Jewelry remains a popular way to wear the horn, serving as a keepsake to pass down or a gift of luck and protection.
