This magnificent 18 Kt gold pendant features an authentic Byzantine gold coin (solidus) in 24 Kt gold, dating back to the 6th century A.D. The coin depicts Emperor Maurice Tiberius on the obverse and the Archangel Michael on the reverse—symbols of imperial authority and divine protection.

On the obverse, Emperor Maurice Tiberius (582–602 A.D.) is shown facing forward, wearing a diadem, cuirass, and chlamys, in a solemn and regal pose. In his right hand he holds a globus cruciger—the emblem of Christian dominion over the world—while in his left he carries a scepter.

On the reverse, the Archangel Michael is depicted standing frontally, holding a long cross in his right hand and a globus cruciger in his left—symbols of faith and divine imperial power. Around the figure appears the legend in Byzantine Greek, typical of solidi struck during the reign of Maurice Tiberius, bearing the inscription:
“VICTORIA AVGG”, meaning “Victory of the Emperors.”

Below, the inscription “CONOB” identifies the mint of Constantinople (CON = Constantinopolis, OB = obryzum, pure gold).

Maurice Tiberius, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire from 582 to 602 A.D., was one of the most capable rulers of the late Byzantine period. He reformed the army and administration, strengthened the empire’s frontiers, and upheld the Christian faith with conviction. His coinage—refined and rich in symbolism—reflects the power and spirituality of an empire still radiant at the heart of the Mediterranean world.
