Regular price €670,00

This pendant, crafted in sterling silver, features an authentic Roman bronze coin minted during the reign of Emperor Nero (AD 54–68).The obverse of the coin depicts the bust of Nero, the last emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. On the reverse appears the goddess Hestia (known to the Romans as Vesta), shown seated and holding a scepter, a symbol of her divine authority and protective power over the household and hearth.

Nero, born Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, became emperor after being adopted by his great-uncle Claudius. During the early years of his reign, he was influenced by his mother Agrippina, the philosopher Seneca, and the Praetorian prefect Burrus. Nero is remembered for his extravagance and cruelty; ancient authors such as Tacitus and Suetonius portray him as a tyrant and accuse him of instigating the Great Fire of Rome, although modern historians tend to question the reliability of these accounts.

Hestia, known in Roman religion as Vesta, was the goddess of the hearth, home, and family. She symbolized purity, stability, and the sacred flame that burned in both temples and homes—the spiritual heart of Roman life. Her priestesses, the Vestal Virgins, were charged with keeping the eternal fire of Vesta alight in her temple in the Roman Forum. The presence of Hestia/Vesta on a coin represented continuity, protection, and the prosperity of the Roman state.
