The micromosaic was created by one of the exceptionally talented artisans who worked in Rome during that era.

These skilled micromosaicists hailed from the renowned Vatican Mosaic Studio, which was established in 1727. The studio attracted the most exceptional mosaic artists in Rome. The term "micromosaic" refers to mosaics crafted using the tiniest glass pieces, sometimes exceeding 5000 pieces per square inch.

Rome, often the final destination for Grand Tour travelers, held great allure with its iconic squares and monuments. Countless artists immortalized its beauty through paintings, sculptures, and smaller masterpieces like micromosaics. These miniature artworks depicted not only classical motifs but also scenes from everyday life, animals, and flowers. Travelers were enchanted and amazed by the precise designs, vibrant colors, and harmonious compositions of these works.

Originally, micro mosaics were supported by copper, stone, or glass. However, the latter materials proved more suitable for mounting in gold or silver, transforming simple plaquettes into necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings, rings, and pendants. It became customary for the ladies of the Grand Tour during the first half of the 19th century to possess a parure—a matching set—in gold or gilt silver, adorned with plaquettes featuring micro mosaics, each depicting a different location.
