These 925 silver earrings feature two genuine Roman silver denarii from the 2nd century AD, depicting Emperor Marcus Aurelius and his wife, Faustina the Younger. Marcus Aurelius (26 April 121 – 17 March 180) was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and is widely regarded as the last of the Five Good Emperors as well as one of history’s most influential Stoic philosophers. He married Faustina the Younger, daughter of Antoninus Pius, strengthening the ties between the two ruling families.

Upon his ascension, Marcus Aurelius initially co-ruled with his adopted brother, Lucius Verus, before assuming sole control after Verus’s death. His reign was marked by major military challenges, including the Marcomannic Wars, conflicts in the East, and a series of natural disasters and economic pressures across the empire. Despite these hardships, he remained deeply devoted to philosophy, leaving behind his renowned work Meditations, which remains one of the most important texts of Stoic thought.

Faustina the Younger was highly respected for her charitable works and was honored with the title Augusta. She accompanied her husband on military campaigns and participated in various imperial initiatives, gaining admiration among the Roman people. Together, Marcus Aurelius and Faustina the Younger represent a period of Roman history defined by philosophical reflection, resilience, and the effort to preserve stability during turbulent times.

Each earring is crafted in 925 sterling silver and accented with a natural keshi pearl, whose organic form complements the ancient character of the coins.

Keshi pearls are unique pearls formed without a nucleus, composed almost entirely of nacre. Known for their irregular shapes and exceptional luster, they develop naturally when an oyster rejects the implanted nucleus but continues producing nacre. Because of their organic beauty and rarity, keshi pearls are highly prized in contemporary jewelry design, adding a soft, luminous contrast to the historic Roman silver coins.
