This sterling silver pendant showcases the elegance of an authentic Roman silver coin, specifically a denarius from the gens Iulia dating back to 94 BC. The coin features a captivating depiction of Venus steering a chariot drawn by two cupids, with a lyre positioned at the bottom left. On the reverse side, the coin reveals the helmeted head of Mars.

Venus, a prominent Roman goddess, held sway over a spectrum of attributes such as love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory. In Roman mythology, she claimed lineage to the Roman people through her son Aeneas, the survivor of Troy's fall who sought refuge in Italy. Notably, Julius Caesar asserted Venus as his ancestor. Revered in various cult titles, Venus played a central role in Roman religious festivals.

The Romans, drawing inspiration from the Greek goddess Aphrodite, adapted her myths and iconography for their art and Latin literature. As the classical tradition evolved, Venus emerged as a widely referenced deity in Greco-Roman mythology, embodying love and sexuality. Classical artworks often depict her in a state of nudity, symbolizing her role in these aspects of human experience.
