Freshwater pearls are cultivated in lakes or rivers and have recently achieved exceptional quality, displaying remarkable consistency in shape and brilliance. These pearls are formed naturally within oysters. In ancient times, people would venture into the sea to fish for these mollusks, hoping to discover precious treasures within. However, since the early 1900s, pearl cultivation techniques have been developed, largely attributed to the pioneering work of Japanese researcher Mikimoto.

Mikimoto observed that when a foreign object entered an oyster, the mollusk would produce a substance called nacre or mother of pearl, composed mainly of calcium carbonate, to protect itself. This nacre gradually coated the foreign body, resulting in the creation of a pearl. Since that significant discovery, pearl cultivation has thrived, as these living organisms require certain care and maintenance to preserve their beauty.
