This exquisite 18Kt Gold pendant houses a Gold  Ancient Roman coin (Solidus) 4th Cent AD depicting the Emperor Valentinian. On the rear, we can see the Emperor holding labarum with Christogram on banner and Victory on globe.

Valentinian I, also known as Valentinian the Great, held the Roman imperial throne from 364 to 375. Upon assuming power, he appointed his brother Valens as co-emperor, entrusting him with governance over the eastern provinces while Valentinian retained control over the western regions.

Valentinian demonstrated military prowess, securing victories against formidable adversaries such as the Alamanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians. The Battle of Solicinium in 367 is a significant triumph over the Alamanni. Under the leadership of his skilled general Count Theodosius, revolts in Africa and the Great Conspiracy—an orchestrated assault on Roman Britain by Picts, Scots, and Saxons—were thwarted.

Valentinian's legacy extends beyond military achievements; he was the last emperor to oversee campaigns across the Rhine and Danube rivers. Recognizing the importance of fortifications, he embarked on extensive rebuilding and enhancement projects along the empire's frontiers, even constructing fortresses deep within enemy territories.

The success of Valentinian's reign contrasts starkly with the rapid decline that followed his passing, earning him the distinction of being hailed as the "last great western emperor." Establishing the Valentinianic dynasty, his sons Gratian and Valentinian II succeeded him in governing the western half of the empire.
