The ring features an oval carnelian gem engraved with the figure of the goddess Fortuna. She is shown standing, front-facing but with a slight turn of the body, a pose very typical of Roman art.
In her left hand she holds a cornucopia, symbol of abundance and prosperity, while in her right she carries a rudder, representing control over fate and the direction of human life. On her head she wears a modius, a cylindrical headdress that signifies measure and agricultural fertility.Fortuna was
associated with good luck, prosperity, and the protection of personal and collective destiny.
The rudder symbolizes the steering of fate, while the cornucopia adds the idea of material plenty. Together, they form an image of stable and benevolent Fortune, akin to Fortuna Redux or Fortuna Publica — protector of safe returns and the welfare of the state.
This ring, with its clear iconography and traditional symbols, expresses the Roman ideal of Fortuna as a balance between chance and control — a divine gift harmonized with human virtue.
It is an object that combines beauty, religious meaning, and protective power — a small talisman of well-being and security for its wearer.
