EMPEROR NERO Bronze Roman coin sterling silver pendant 1st century AD

$576.00

This pendant, crafted in sterling silver, features an authentic Roman bronze coin from the 1st century AD depicting Emperor Nero.

On the reverse side of the coin are the letters 'SC' (Senatus Consultum), indicating the coin was issued by decree of the Roman Senate.

Nero ruled as Roman Emperor from 54 to 68 AD and was the last of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Born Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, he became emperor after his great-uncle Claudius adopted him. In the early years of his reign, Nero was influenced by his mother Agrippina, the philosopher Seneca, and the Praetorian prefect Burrus.

Nero is often remembered for his extravagance and cruelty. Ancient historians like Suetonius and Tacitus depict him as impulsive and tyrannical. He was accused of starting the Great Fire of Rome and brutally persecuting Christians afterward, though some modern scholars question the reliability of these accounts.
