This sterling silver pendant, meticulously crafted by the skilled hands of our artisans at SERRA, stands as a tribute to timeless craftsmanship. Situated in the heart of Rome since 1910, our workshop on via Margutta 57, nestled near the illustrious Spanish Steps, continues to weave tales of history and elegance.

At the heart of this pendant lies an authentic Greek bronze coin from the 2nd century B.C., bearing the likeness of Phalanthos, the legendary founder of the city of Taras in 706 B.C. Phalanthos, renowned for his valor, led the Spartans to triumph over the Messenians in battle. However, amidst internal strife in Sparta, Phalanthos and his fellow Partenis sought recognition of their civil rights.

Driven by a quest for autonomy, Phalanthos sought guidance from the Oracle of Delphi, the revered source of prophecy in the Greek world. The Oracle's cryptic response—"When you see rain from the clear sky, you will conquer territory and city"—emboldened Phalanthos and his companions to embark on a journey of new beginnings.

Their voyage, fraught with perils, found salvation when a dolphin rescued Phalanthos from a shipwreck, guiding him to the shore where he orchestrated the rescue of his comrades. As they sailed on, weary and weather-beaten, Phalanthos's wife Etra, whose name means "clear sky," shed tears of worry, unwittingly fulfilling the Oracle's prophecy.

In the Gulf of Saturo, at the mouth of the river Tara, Phalanthos and his companions founded the city of Taranto, honoring the hero Taras who had once graced those shores. On the reverse of the coin, the wreathed head of Neptune, the god of the sea, stands as a symbol of their maritime journey and the blessings bestowed upon their new home.
