Discover an authentic ancient Greek coin pendant featuring a stunning depiction of Arethusa’s head on the front, surrounded by four playful dolphins.
Arethusa, a revered nymph in Greek mythology, is famous for her transformation. Pursued by the river god Alpheus, son of Oceanus, Arethusa fled to the island of Ortygia near Syracuse. There, she called upon the goddess Artemis for protection, and in response, Artemis transformed her into a spring, forever immortalizing Arethusa in flowing waters. The dolphins surrounding her symbolize the sea and purification, further enriching the divine intervention and transformation myth.
On the reverse, a Quadriga is depicted, with a charioteer holding a goad, guiding four horses while Nike, the goddess of victory, flies to the right above them, crowning the horses in a moment of triumph. The imagery speaks to the themes of victory, speed, and divine favor. Nike’s presence above the horses represents the triumph of the charioteer, guided by divine favor and intervention in the pursuit of victory.
