GODDESS DIANA Genuine Ancient Roman Silver Coin 179-170 BC Silver Pendant
This 925 silver pendant contains an authentic Roman denarius, struck between 179 and 170 BC.
The obverse of the coin depicts Diana, one of the most revered deities in Roman religion, driving a stag-drawn chariot to the right while holding a whip. Beneath the chariot appears a crescent moon, a symbol closely associated with the goddess, while the inscription ROMA is displayed in the exergue. Diana was the goddess of the hunt, forests, wild animals, and the moon. She embodied the untamed beauty of nature and was also regarded as a protector of women and childbirth.
The reverse features the helmeted Head of Roma facing right, with the denomination mark X behind. Roma was the personification of the city and state of Rome, symbolizing the strength, authority, and military power of the Roman Republic. Her image appeared frequently on Republican coinage as a representation of civic pride and Roman identity.
This denarius was issued during a period of Roman expansion and prosperity in the second century BC, when silver coinage played a vital role in trade, military payments, and the growing economy of the Republic. The combination of Roma and Diana on this coin reflects the balance between Roman power and divine protection, making it an attractive and historically significant artifact for collectors and enthusiasts of ancient history.
