This sterling silver pendant showcases an authentic bronze coin featuring Emperor Domitian, encased within. Adorning the reverse side is the figure of Virtus, symbolizing the esteemed quality of virtus in ancient Roman society—the embodiment of one's courage and merit through actions.

Born in October 51, Emperor Domitian reigned from 81 to 96, the final ruler of the Flavian dynasty. Often characterized as a formidable yet efficient autocrat, his authoritative governance brought him into confrontation with the Senate, leading to significant curtailment of its powers.

Initially playing a peripheral role during the reigns of his father, Vespasian, and brother, Titus, Domitian ascended to the throne upon Titus's death, backed by the Praetorian Guard. His 15-year rule marked the longest since Tiberius.

Domitian's reign was marked by economic reforms, including revaluating Roman currency, bolstering the empire's border defenses, and extensive urban reconstruction efforts in Rome. Military campaigns were waged in Britain under the leadership of his general Agricola, aiming to subdue Caledonia (Scotland), and in Dacia against King Decebalus, though conclusive victory remained elusive.

Embracing an authoritarian style of governance, Domitian propagated religious, military, and cultural propaganda, fostering a cult of personality. By assuming the perpetual role of censor, he endeavored to regulate public and private conduct, solidifying his control over both realms.
