This sterling silver ring showcases an authentic 4th-century AD Roman bronze coin featuring the iconic image of the She-wolf nurturing Romulus and Remus. Wolves held a special significance in Roman mythology, notably in the tale of Rome's legendary founders. According to the myth, the twins were ordered to be killed by King Amulius of Alba Longa and were set adrift in the Tiber River. Miraculously, they found refuge at the base of the Palatine Hill, where Rome was destined to rise, saved by the river god Tiber and caught in the roots of a fig tree.

The twins were discovered by a she-wolf, known as "lupa," who nurtured and protected them—a pivotal moment immortalized in countless artworks across the Roman Empire. Eventually, they were adopted by a shepherd and his wife, Faustulus and Acca Larentia. Throughout the Roman era, the wolf symbolized power, prominently featured in Roman art and coinage during both the Republic and the Empire.

The earliest known statue depicting the she-wolf nursing the twins dates back to 296 BC and was erected by Gnaeus and Quintus Ogulnius, likely near the Lupercal. Additionally, dedications to the she-wolf, such as those honoring the 'Roman she-wolf' and the 'august She-Wolf,' known as Lupa Augusta, were made by priests of the imperial cult in various Roman provinces. These dedications underscore the profound connection between the she-wolf and the Roman state.
