EMPEROR HADRIAN Genuine Ancient Roman Bronze Coin 2nd cent. AD Pendant

An authentic Roman bronze coin from the 2nd century AD, depicting Emperor Hadrian, has been set in this handmade sterling silver pendant crafted by our goldsmiths. On the reverse side, the inscription “SC” (Senatus Consulto) can be seen, indicating that the coin was struck under the authority of the Roman Senate.

Hadrian is best remembered for his extensive travels, remarkable architectural projects, and his efforts to unify the vast territories of the Roman Empire. A man of refined aesthetic taste and great learning, he even left behind a small collection of poetry. Among the architectural masterpieces attributed to his reign are the Temple of Venus and Roma and the rebuilding of the Pantheon, which had been damaged by fire during the rule of his predecessor.

One of his most celebrated legacies is Hadrian’s Villa (Villa Adriana), located near Tivoli, just outside Rome. Covering an area of over seven square miles, this opulent estate was more akin to a garden city than a mere villa. It featured baths, libraries, sculpture gardens, theaters, open-air dining halls, pavilions, and private suites. Some parts of this grand complex have survived to the present day, and it was rightfully designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

Hadrian’s mausoleum, known today as Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, later served as the burial place of other emperors and was converted into a fortress during the 5th century.
