EMPEROR HADRIAN Authentic Ancient Roman Coin 2nd century AD Silver Ring
This sterling silver ring holds an authentic Roman coin dating back to the 2nd century AD featuring Emperor Hadrian. On the reverse side of the coin, the goddess Moneta is depicted with scales and a cornucopia.
Hadrian's legacy is marked by his extensive travels, ambitious architectural endeavors, and efforts to unify the far-reaching territories of the Roman Empire. He was known for his refined taste, scholarly pursuits, and literary contributions, leaving behind a collection of poems.
His imprint on history endures through various architectural marvels, such as the reconstruction of the Pantheon and the Temple of Rome and Venus, the latter destroyed in a fire during the reign of his predecessor. Villa Adriana, his countryside estate outside Rome, stands as an embodiment of Roman opulence and sophistication. Covering seven square miles, it resembled more a flourishing city with baths, libraries, sculpture gardens, theaters, open-air dining halls, pavilions, and private suites. Some parts of this estate have survived to the present day, earning it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999.
Notably, Hadrian's final resting place, initially his tomb and now known as Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, evolved into a burial ground for future emperors and underwent conversion into a fortress during the 5th century.
