CRAB Genuine Ancient Greek Bronze coin 5th cent. BC Pendant

This bronze coin, dating to the 5th century BC and originating from Magna Graecia, Sicily, has been mounted as a pendant. The coin features a striking crab on one side, while the reverse depicts a sea eagle, a powerful maritime symbol.

The coin is attributed to Agrigento (ancient Akragas), the famed City of Temples and one of the most prosperous centers of Magna Graecia. Celebrated by the poet Pindar as “the most beautiful city of mortals,” Agrigento was strategically located at the confluence of the Akragas and Hypsas rivers, benefiting greatly from both fertile agriculture and extensive maritime trade.
