This sterling silver bracelet showcases an exquisite piece of history—an authentic Roman denarius featuring the likeness of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Renowned as both a Roman emperor and a stoic philosopher, Marcus Aurelius reigned from 161 to 180 AD. He held the distinguished title of being the last of the rulers known as the Five Good Emperors and was also the final emperor of the Pax Romana, a period characterized by relative peace and stability within the Roman Empire.

Born during the reign of Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius was the son of Marcus Annius Verus (III), a praetor and nephew of the emperor, and Domitia Lucilla, an heiress. After the passing of his father, Marcus was raised by his mother and his grandfather, Marcus Annius Verus. In 138 AD, following the death of Hadrian's adopted son Aelius Caesar, the emperor chose Marcus' uncle, Antoninus Pius, as his new heir. Subsequently, Antoninus adopted both Marcus and the son of Aelius, Lucius, who would later co-rule as Emperor Lucius Verus alongside Marcus. After Hadrian's death in the same year, Antoninus ascended to the imperial throne.

As the designated heir to the empire, Marcus Aurelius pursued his education diligently. He received instruction in Greek and Latin from prominent tutors like Herodes Atticus and Marcus Cornelius Fronto. His association with Fronto continued through an extensive correspondence over many years. In 145 AD, Marcus married Faustina, the daughter of Antoninus Pius, solidifying the familial bonds within the ruling dynasty.
