This sterling silver ring proudly showcases an authentic Roman silver denarius from the 1st century AD, featuring Emperor Domitian. The coin's reverse side captures a leaping dolphin—an emblematic representation. Domitian, reigning from 81 to 96, was the son of Vespasian and the last of the Flavian dynasty, succeeding his father and brother, Titus. His authoritarian rule clashed significantly with the Senate, leading to stringent curtailment of its powers.

Initially playing a minor role in his family's reigns, Domitian ascended to power upon his brother's death, declared emperor by the Praetorian Guard. His 15-year reign marked the longest since Tiberius. As emperor, he revitalized the economy by revaluing Roman currency, fortified the empire's borders, and embarked on an extensive reconstruction program in Rome. Noteworthy conflicts unfolded in Britain, where General Agricola endeavored to conquer Caledonia (Scotland), and in Dacia, where victory against King Decebalus proved elusive.

Domitian wielded authoritative control, fostering a cult of personality through religious, military, and cultural propaganda. Designating himself perpetual censor, he aimed to regulate public and private conduct, earning popularity among the populace and military but facing accusations of tyranny from the Roman Senate. This ancient coin encapsulates Domitian's complex legacy—a ruler celebrated by many yet denounced by the Senate for his authoritarian inclinations.
