This magnificent 18 Kt gold pendant features an authentic Roman coin (solidus) in 24 Kt gold, dating back to the 5th century A.D. The coin depicts Emperor Theodosius II on one side and the personification of the city of Constantinople on the other.

On the obverse, Theodosius II is shown facing forward, wearing a helmet and cuirass, and holding a spear in his right hand and a shield.
On the reverse, Constantinople is depicted seated on a throne, facing left, holding a globus cruciger and a scepter.

Theodosius II (April 10, 401 – July 28, 450), the son of Emperor Arcadius, ruled as Eastern Roman Emperor from 408 to 450. His long reign was marked by significant achievements, including the compilation of the Codex Theodosianus—an essential collection of Roman laws—and the completion of the famous Theodosian Walls, which rendered Constantinople one of the most formidable fortified cities of the ancient world. His religious policies further strengthened Christianity as the dominant faith of the Empire.
