This sterling silver ring features an authentic Roman bronze coin portraying Emperor Antoninus Pius. He served as the Roman emperor from 138 to 161 and was part of the esteemed Nerva-Antonine dynasty, known for its "Five Good Emperors." Antoninus hailed from a senatorial family and held various positions during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, who adopted him as his son and designated successor shortly before his passing.

Antoninus earned the cognomen "Pius" after ascending to the throne, possibly due to his insistence on deifying his adoptive father or his efforts in saving senators sentenced to death during Hadrian's final years. Noteworthy during his rule was the relative tranquility within the Empire, with no major uprisings or significant military invasions taking place. Additionally, Antoninus governed the Empire from Italy itself and never ventured outside its borders.

Early in his reign, he achieved a successful military campaign in southern Scotland, which led to the construction of the Antonine Wall. Antoninus demonstrated effective administration skills and left a substantial surplus in the treasury for his successors. He also promoted accessible drinking water throughout the Empire, encouraged adherence to the law, and facilitated the liberation of slaves. In 161, he passed away due to illness, and his adopted sons Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus succeeded him as co-emperors.
