MARCUS AURELIUS Genuine ancient Roman Coin 2nd Cent. AD silver Pendant
This sterling silver pendant features an authentic 2nd-century AD Roman coin depicting Emperor Marcus Aurelius. On the back, there is an image of Concordia sitting on a throne with patera and cornucopia.
Marcus Aurelius, born in AD 121, was betrothed to Aelius Caesar's daughter and later adopted by Antoninus. He became Caesar in AD 139, married Faustina Junior, and smoothly succeeded to the throne in AD 161. Known for his devotion to Stoic philosophy, he died in AD 180 and was deified.
Concordia, the Roman goddess of harmony and agreement, is symbolized in the pendant with her characteristic attributes, such as the patera (ritual libation bowl), the cornucopia, and sometimes a scepter. She represents unity, peace, and balance among citizens and within the state. Concordia was especially revered as a symbol of social and political stability in ancient Rome. Amulets, coins, and gems often depict her as the personification of harmony and shared prosperity.
